Why will Wave 1 delivery take until May 2020 long for a reprint?

The digital files are ready to rock already so why will it take so long? Here is a quick break down: June 24 - July 23 : Campaign is live Kickstarter typically won’t deposit the funds from a successfully funded project until a month after the campaign ends. So being safe, we will receive our funding around September 1. Our plan is to then keep our Pledge Manager for Wave 1 open through September and close on October 1. At this point, we hit the print button with the manufacturer. Manufacturing / Product Assembly could take up to 10 weeks. This puts us into December / early January (our goal is to tie up production before Chinese New Year) The games are then sent out to sea. Ocean time ranges from 4-6 weeks. Now we’re in February / March. Fulfillment from this point can take 2 to 4 weeks. Which puts us into April/May!

How does the Free Day 1 Miniature work? (multiple pledges, backer number, how it works post campaign)

Multiple pledges If you back us on Day 1, you will receive an amount of Day 1 figures equal to the amount of pledges (Through the Portal level or higher) you add to your pledge manager. So, if you back us Day 1, then add 10 Through the Portal pledges to your order, you will receive 10 Day 1 figures! Backer number The way we will track Day 1 backers will be by their backer ID number. On June 25th at 9:00AM MST, we will cut off the backer number that last backed us and anyone after that number will not be eligible for the free Day 1 figure. When the campaign ends, so long as you are Backer number X or lower, you’ll get the figure added to your pledge for free.

Last updated: June 24, 2019 09:40

Will I be able to purchase the Day 1 figure if I did not back on Day 1?

Yes, the figure will be available as an add-on for $15.

Last updated: June 24, 2019 09:40

Will there be a Pledge Manager?

Yes, we will be using BackerKit.

Last updated: June 24, 2019 09:40

Can I Pledge only $1 and Upgrade the Pledge on the Pledge Manager? What about the Day 1 Free Figure?

Thanks for the dollar! Pledging only $1 will add you to our Pledge Manager. This means that you will be able to upgrade your pledge up until the Pledge Manager closes on the 1st of October, 2019. It will also add you to our email newsletter, keep you notified on our campaign, and will also solidify your position for our free Day 1 figure. Keep in mind that to actually receive the Day 1 figure, you’ll need to upgrade your $1 pledge to one of our actual pledge levels (Through the Portal or higher).

Last updated: June 24, 2019 09:40

How long will the pledge manager be open?

As of now, We will have the Pledge Manager for Wave 1 open from September 1 - October 1 2019. For Wave 2, the Pledge Manager will be open until the shipping of Wave 2. Our estimation would be Q2 of 2021

Last updated: June 24, 2019 09:40

Is the campaign customs friendly? What about Brexit?

Customs Yes, our campaign is customs friendly. All of our products will be shipped from their respective regions to avoid the taxation of the customer. Some regions may not apply. What about Brexit It’s hard to say how this will all unfold. We’ve been told by our fulfillment company, Ship Naked, that in the occurrence of Brexit, they have partners within the UK that will be able to be utilized for warehousing and shipping from within that region. We will be doing our best to take care of our UK backers.

Last updated: June 24, 2019 09:40

How will the proposed tariffs on China effect this campaign?

Because we manufacture in China, this 15%-20% tax will effect us directly. We’ve done our best to price our products with these tariffs in mind.

Post-campaign pledge manager and late backers

For Wave 1 orders, our pledge manager will be open from roughly September 1 - October 1. We will announce a hard cut off around then. For Wave 2, the pledge manager will be open until the completion of all Wave 2 product. In other words, the pledge manager for Wave 2 items will be open from September 1 - Q2 of 2021. Late Backers We happily welcome late backers to hop onto our pledge manager within the timeframes listed above! However, if you miss Wave 1 you will need to purchase any product in that shipped with Wave 1 from our webstore.

Etched Dice from our first campaign?

The Etched Dice from our first campaign will most likely deliver somewhere in the middle/end of this campaign.

Value of our product and retail?

When we talk about MSRP, we are talking about the true value of our product if it were to be sold retail. This is based on our cost of the product and the suggested markup by a distributor. Of course, this is Kickstarter and we want to cut you all a sweet deal so we will be undercutting this suggested price and giving you all the best deal we can. Retail For the most part, we will be avoiding selling retail. This is because our game is just too large and expensive for most retailers to gamble on carrying. Also, we are able to provide the best prices possible by selling direct to the customer rather than through a distributor. Exceptions With that said, we have worked out pricing with retailers before. This usually requires a minimum order of 10 games. We will deal with these requests on a case by case basis. If you are a retailer and are interested in carrying Middara, please email us at [email protected].

Last updated: June 24, 2019 09:58

Retail pledge?

We will not have a retail pledge level on this campaign.

Last updated: June 24, 2019 09:58

Translations?

For this campaign, Middara and all expansions will be printed in English. Providing translated versions of Middara have been a struggle for us because the game is just so large. Fully translated version of Middara are not ruled out, but for now, this is just outside of the scope of this campaign. Localization We are talking with a number of publishers on doing localized printing of Middara. We see this as a great opportunity for us, as well as our non-English speaking backers. We aren’t promising anything as of now, but there may be a chance of us printing Middara in other languages at some point in the near future. Other resources Our loyal backers have done some volunteer translations that you can find in this Kickstarter update: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/succubuspublishing/middara/posts/2526011

Audio App?

The Middara Audiobook App has seen it’s fair share of bugs. We don’t have the largest budget to hire a full-time programmer to optimize our app. Our young programmer is doing his best but is unable to keep up with what we need. Depending on the performance of this campaign, we may be able to really ramp up the Audiobook App to be all that it can be. Not just an Audiobook, but a true Middara Companion App! For now, we still expect to have the Audio App completed in the form we promised by the delivery of the reprint. This includes the audio files for all released Chapters of Unintentional Malum Act 1. We also have the Audio hosted as MP3 files and on Youtube so that you can stream it without using a phone app.

Age Rating and Content?

Despite the cartoony artwork, we don’t want backers getting a game that delivers content they didn’t expect. Middara and all the products sold on this campaign are rated 15+ for the following: Use of Alcohol/Drugs/Tobacco - Our characters smoke, drink, and cards depict these sorts of Items as being common in our fantasy world. Violence - There are written depictions of blood, death, and the occasional decapitations/dismemberment. We show this occasionally in art pieces. It isn’t crude for the sake of being crude, but we also don’t shy away from it when it happens.
Language - There is mild to moderate use of profanity that you might find in a pg-13 rated movie. Unintentional Malum and the other products on this campaign contain no F-Bombs, no real-life racial slurs, and no crude farce style humor. But people do swear casually. Sexual Content - We have non-explicit depictions of sexual behavior and some artwork that contains partial nudity that is mild. In Unintentional Malum or other stories on this campaign we do not use sex as main plot motivations or use it as a tool in any overt way. Fantasy Gambling - We have elements of gambling with in game money that players can wager. These themes are only expanded upon in later installments. Note: This does not cover all possible points you might find objectionable for your play group. However, we understand that groups don’t want to feel uncomfortable while they play a boardgame. This list is meant to convey that Middara contains more of the above content than your typical board game. But we aren’t also purposefully including anything on the list for that reason. Instead, we’re simply creating games and stories we like while not avoiding any specific content because it’s a boardgame.

Do I receive Free Daily Unlocks and Stretch Goals (Promo Boxes) from Multiple pledges?

You’ll receive an amount Promo Boxes equal to the amount of pledges (Through the Portal and higher) that you purchase. If you purchase 5 separate pledges, you’ll get 5 Promo Boxes.

Last updated: June 24, 2019 09:58

Replayability?

Adventure Mode The way that our Adventure Mode works, due to branching paths, players will never be able to play through every Encounter on a single playthrough. Their performance and their decisions will dictate their path. This means that groups may need to play through the game two or three times before playing and seeing everything if that’s what they intend on doing. Crawl Mode Future content on this campaign is expanding our Crawl Mode significantly. This includes focusing on unique Encounters instead of Encounters based on Adventure Mode, a larger selection of Crawls at all levels, and new fun options to expand that mode for you and your friends to play again and again. Character building Much of the fun of playing Middara is building up your character with crazy Items and Abilities. With hundreds and hundreds of different combinations, players can play through Middara multiple times using different builds while having a completely different experience. Returning Backers Our Returning Backers will be pleasantly surprised with our 1.1 Update Pack. With difficulty tweaks, tougher monsters, new Disciplines, and new Items, Middara will feel alive and rejuvenated!

Last updated: June 24, 2019 09:58

What's the difference between the Crawl Mode and the Adventure Mode?

Crawl Mode The Crawl Mode is more akin to what people expect with a dungeon crawler. It’s fast, quick-progressing, and gives you that quick fix of killing monsters, getting loot, and leveling up. Players will be assigned an amount of Gold and XP at the start of an Encounter. Adventurers will Gain XP and Items quicker than normal. A session of the Crawl Mode will take around 3 hours. Adventure Mode The Adventure Mode is our true claim-to-fame. You’ll follow a series of characters through a 80-100 hour epic campaign. This is where decisions matter and where those decision will echo through multiple expansions and even other products in the Middara universe.

Solo play?

Middara has a number of ways to play solo. Within each corresponding product, we will provide tarot-sized 2-3 player variant cards. To minimize management, solo players may play with the 2-player variant and feel like a superhero as they fly around Encounters and blow up bad guys. For the solo player that doesn’t mind the table management, they may also just simply gear up all 4 Adventurers and hit the table! We have reviews from Solo Players that you can check out under our reviews section or on Boardgame Geek.

Last updated: June 24, 2019 09:58

Can you play Middara with more than 4 players?

Group size may vary between players and while Middara does not natively support 5 players, players may choose to play with 5 people anyway. The main reason Middara does not natively support 5 players is because at the beginning of the Story, there are only 4 characters available to play. A 5th player, therefore, would have to wait until another Adventurer joins the party. That would create too much downtime for one of the players. However, if you happen to have access to another Adventurer from another Middara product and are okay with the narrative dissonance of a never-mentioned party member, you may play the game with 5 players using the variant rules in our Rule Book.

How do you feel about Templates, PDF's, print and play, and other forms of user made and free content?

We love user made content and will always support it to any capacity that furthers the enjoyment of our game for our community. To help in any way we can, we’ll be releasing blank PSD templates very soon as well as pdf of every card. We even have a Table Top Simulator version of the game in the works.

We have been providing a multitude of free content throughout the growth of the Middara world! For now, you will be able to find everything here.

As far as permissions for fan made content go, so long as you’re not bootlegging our game at a competing printing company and selling what we made, you’re welcome to create supporting product such as tuck boxes, mats, organizers, etc to your heart’s content and even monetize it.

Hell, if you make something cool enough that we love and throw it up on Etsy we’ll even give you a shout out on our website. Just make sure you give us a heads up when using any of our official artwork.

So long as you’re not selling it, we’ll even do what we can to support and help cultivate new encounters, stories, Bounties, or that sort of thing.

If you have grander plans or ideas that fall into the monetization category, we’d appreciate if you reached out to us first. You’ll find that we’re very reasonable and support most content in this category and will even be willing to go bigger with passionate fans.

Can I choose to wait for Wave 2 to ship both Wave 1 and Wave 2 to save shipping costs?

No. Due to the size of this campaign and the difference in shipping Wave 1 and Wave 2, this campaign is strictly two waves. However, the shipping isn’t a flat rate and changes depending on what you are having shipped to you in each Wave.

Last updated: June 24, 2019 09:58

Does the new Promo Box on this campaign contain all the goodies from the promobox that was on the first campaign?

No, the reprint Promo Box will be a whole new set of freebies. New backers are in luck though. They’ll be able to find everything from the first campaign as add-ons on this campaign.

Last updated: June 24, 2019 09:58

What kind and how many card sleeves do I need?

We have 5 different card sizes: 9Check out our linked FAQ on the top of the KS page for links to the sleeves.) Standard Euro Mini-American Tarot Custom (Large 5 in x 6 in) These are trickier since they are a custom size. There are a couple of options though: Paladins Kickstarter campaign offered a “Nightingale” sleeve based on a tremendous amount of requests. We may be manufacturing our own sleeves for these cards in the coming year. Our card count for the Core Game, Promo Box, and Art Book is the following: Standard Euro 59 x 91mm = 425 total Mini American 41 x 63mm = 363 total Large Cards 152 x 127 mm = 91 total Tarot 70 x 120 mm = 30 total Card counts for Wave 2 product will be announced once digital files are approved and delivered to our manufacturer.

How big should my table be?

If we’re talking best case scenario here, you’ll want a pretty big table. Something around 65” x 96”. Something you’d play Warhammer, or another tabletop miniatures game on. But realistically, we usually play on smaller tables and use a small side table or chair to hold all components not being used at that moment. In short, if you can play Twilight Imperium, Star Wars: Armada, Axis & Allies, or Warhammer on it, you can play Middara. (using any side tables and/or table space you’d normally use for those games.)

Last updated: June 24, 2019 09:58

What's the deal with all the Cross Promotions?

All of our crossover partnerships are strictly for coolness and fun. We may work with these companies further, but for now, we’re just providing a fun experience for backers. Ultimately we do this because we love board games and we find ourselves legitimately backing their projects independently. Unless they require it, we make no special agreements outside of simply giving a shout out to friends and allies in the industry.

What about Cross promotion Licensing rights and KS Exclusives?

Despite having them on our first campaign, we don’t believe in KS Exclusives. Anything that was previously marked a KS Exclusive will still be honored and only be offered during Kickstarters. However, this doesn’t mean that we will always have a game available outside of Kickstarter. Middara is so huge that keeping a behemoth like this in stock isn’t realistic. This means that moving forward we will simply offer what we can when we can. By the nature of our business model the sheer scale and scope of our products means that we simply will not be able to ever promise that we can keep them in stock outside of print runs we do on Kickstarter. With all that said, if we do amazing on a campaign and have a huge amount of people who want our game that missed the Kickstarter, we will work as hard as we can to find other outlets to get our game into as many people’s hands as possible while making it financially feasible for all parties involved. As far as Licensing goes, we’re at the mercy of our cross promotion partners. If they don’t want us selling cross promotions outside of Kickstarter then we cannot. However, this has not happened yet. So far, every cross promotion partner has been stoked on us selling more of the miniature we worked on with them.

Despite having them on our first campaign, we don’t believe in KS Exclusives. Anything that was previously marked a KS Exclusive will still be honored and only be offered during Kickstarters. However, this doesn't mean that we will always have a game avai

Artbook 1 and the Promo Pack. They are both available as add-ons. KS1 Promo Pack ($30 add-on) Art Book Vol #1 ($30 add-on) Everything besides that will be offered as we realistically can. Since we have no plans on going retail as of right now, and given that we cannot wherehouse a game this large without lots of money, it’s likely that we won’t offer the Middara outside of Kickstarter beyond a small webstore for whatever we print outside of fulfilling the game to our backers. As mentioned in the above FAQ, this will change if the demand is big enough.

If I’m a returning backer, do I need to purchase the Pirates of Elenia Adventure Pack?

No, if you backed us on our first campaign, you already have most of the miniatures and cards required to play the Pirates of Elenia Adventure. Included for free in the Returning To The Portal pledge levels, is the 1.1 Update Pack. This Update Pack will include all the other components for Pirates that were left unfulfilled from the first campaign.

This Rulebook is still in beta. We encourage our backers to playtest this and give us feedback at over on our BBG forum: https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/169427/middara

As long as you’re backing at the “Returning To The Portal” pledge level, you will not need Pirates of Elenia Adventure Pack or KS1 Promo Pack!

Last updated: June 25, 2019 06:14

Is the 1.1 Update Pack necessary if you are getting Act 1 through the Kickstarter?

No, it’s not necessary. The 1.1 Update Pack is only useful for backers of the first campaign.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
